Introduction to scrambling course

Leave the footpaths for adventurous and remote mountain areas.

This two-day course focuses on giving you as much experience of scrambling as we can squeeze into the day.

We can use the rope to move safely on more difficult ground, and by the end of the course you'll feel much more confident moving on mountainous, scrambling terrain.

Some aims of this course are:

  • Experience lots of scrambling
  • Gain confidence moving over rocky terrain
  • Develop new movement skills
  • Rope up to try some harder scrambles if you wish
  • Find some amazing places!

Experience required:

Anyone who's done some walking and would like to try scrambling.

Maximum group size:

Four

Scrambling Skills Course

Scrambling Skills Course

Learn the skills to find your way over grade 1 scrambles.

Over this two-day course we'll find plenty of Grade 1 scrambling, and cover the basics of routefinding, decision-making, and keeping yourself safe.

Some aims of this course are:

  • Experience lots of scrambling
  • Learn to understand guidebooks and scramble route-descriptions
  • Start to develop good judgement and decision-making
  • Learn some of the secrets of route-finding
  • Gain confidence in your ability to go scrambling on your own

Experience required:

You should have plenty of experience walking in the mountains.

Maximum group size:

Two

Advanced Scrambling and Ropework Course

Advanced Scrambling and Ropework Course

Make yourself at home...

Learn how to keep you and your climbing partners safe on grade 2 and grade 3 scrambles.

This five-day course takes you onto more difficult and serious mountain scrambles.

By the end of the course you'll have considerable experience of scrambling and will have learned the basics of using a rope to protect yourself and others.

Some aims of this course are:

  • Gain confidence on grade 2 / grade 3 scrambling
  • Become familiar with guidebooks and scramble route-descriptions
  • Develop good judgement and decision-making
  • Develop movement skills associated with harder scrambling
  • Learn the tips that help with route-finding
  • Get started on placing gear for protection on a route
  • Hands-on practice using a rope to protect you and your partner

Experience required:

Already experienced in climbing grade 1 scrambles and in mountain walking.

Maximum group size:

Two
