Alice Turner                 Climbing — Mountaineering

I've been climbing for nearly 20 years, and have found climbing and mountaineering to be both incredibly fun and deeply rewarding.

About to lead 'Pickpocket' on Long Rock Slab

This is the life...

I'm lucky enough to do what I love; and it's always a pleasure to meet others with similar interests and priorities.

Qualifications

Alice about to make a 50m prussik ascent of her stuck abseil ropes

I hold the Mountain Instructor Award (MIA).

This qualification means that my rock climbing, teaching, and summer navigation and mountaineering have been assessed to the highest UK standard.

I also hold the Summer Mountain Leader Award (ML), and Single Pitch Award (SPA), but the MIA is a lot more!

I also have a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy, but more on that below.

Personal climbing

Climbing has taken me all around the world, from sport-climbing in Thailand to adventure climbing in Morocco, to many, many months in the European Alps and Dolomites, climbing big, mountain routes.

I've climbed extensively in the UK, particularly in southwest England and North Wales.

Physiotherapy career

Alice starting the traverse on Via del Drago (VI-), Dolomites

In 2005 I gave up my full time job as a Senior Physiotherapist at the specialist Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, to make a career out of climbing and being in the mountains.

Although my physio knowledge is great to have, in truth I've never looked back.

It does mean, however, that I can give very specific advice regarding training or exercises for longstanding problems.

Injury prevention is a priority.
